HBRI Political Endorsements

Only HBRI’s national board is able to make endorsement decisions, any endorsements provided by individual members are not considered an endorsement of the whole. While not against HBRI’s guidelines it is frowned upon for individual board members to make endorsements.

The purpose of any political endorsement is to show support and eventually elect candidates who support The Hispanic Business Roundtable Institute’s vision and mission. Through endorsements HBRI gains candidates’ recognition, improves communication with elected officials, advances HBRI’s policy agenda and builds credibilities with activist organizations.

  • Staff consults with the respective board members and compiles information about the candidate’s viability and support of key issues.
  • HBRI seeks input from local members when evaluating a particular candidate.
  • If the candidate has been elected before, HBRI research’s the candidate’s voting record.
  • The HBRI Advisory Board endorses candidates for federal office after reviewing staff research and recommendations.
  • Once the endorsement decision is complete, HBRI communicates to members through the HBRI
  • Newsletter, and communicates to candidates in writing, and in person when possible.

Endorsement Criteria

Endorsements of political candidates are done on the basis of several criteria, not by political party affiliation. Agreement with every HBRI position is not required. Criteria may include:

  • The candidates position on issues of importance to HBRI.
  • The campaigns viability and infrastructure.
  • Historic support of HBRI legislative agenda.
  • The campaign’s commitment to building a lasting infrastructure for future campaigns.

Types of Endorsements

HBRI gives one of the following levels of support to each candidate:

  • Letters of endorsements
  • Endorsement events.
  • Members to volunteer on campaign phone banks and distribute literature.
